Clarence Engineering Company was a car dealership and assembly plant for cars in Northern Ireland . It was the only vehicle assembly plant in Northern Ireland while there were more than 50 in the Republic of Ireland .

Company history

Jasper B. Johnstone founded the company in Belfast in 1917 . Initially it was a car dealership. From 1917 to 1975 vehicles were sold by the Standard Motor Company . In 1926 it sold Chevrolet vehicles . After the Second World War , it was Northern Ireland's only dealer for standard with its Triumph brand . In 1960 the assembly of automobiles began. The parts came from Triumph. The racing driver Jack Brabham was used effectively in advertising. Production ended in the 1960s.

After 1975 the track of the company is lost. It is not known when it was disbanded.

The only assembled model was the Triumph Herald .

The pilot series comprised 36 vehicles. After that, up to four vehicles were planned daily. How many actually emerged is not known.
