Classix Kempten ( spelling CLASSIX Kempten ) is an annual international chamber music festival in Kempten (Allgäu) . The aim of the festival is to present largely unknown chamber music repertoire on changing regions and themes.

history

The festival was founded in 2006 by the pianist Oliver Triendl and the Kempten concert organizer Franz Tröger under the name Fürstensaal Classix , named after the concert hall in the Fürstäbtlichen Residenz . In 2011, the festival moved, initially due to construction work in the residence, then permanently, to the Kempten City Theater . In 2015 the company was renamed “CLASSIX Kempten” for the 10th anniversary. Started with four concerts in the first year, since 2007 five chamber music evenings have been given from Thursday to Sunday. In 2012, a festival start was introduced on the first Sunday of the concert week with taster prices and sponsor reception.

Themes, works and artists

The festival's subtitle “Chamber music for explorers” indicates the choice of program: each year, mostly unknown pieces from a certain region are presented. In 2017 the entire festival was dedicated to women composers. The spectrum ranges from the late classical period through the romantic period to contemporary works. Every year, unknown masterpieces outside the mainstream are discovered and raised. Instrumentalists (including soloists in orchestras and / or chamber musicians) develop largely unknown repertoire during the festival week, sometimes in public rehearsals. From 2006 to 2018, 190 artists were present in Kempten, some of them several times, who played a total of 444 works by 296 composers.

Composer-in-Residence

Since 2007, the festival has had a “composer-in-residence” ( Artist in Residence , CiR) who comes from the country or region of the respective festival motto. This person is present throughout the week and accompanies the rehearsals for his works. Every year there was a world premiere in Kempten.

media

Bayerischer Rundfunk and Deutschlandfunk Kultur have been broadcasting festival concerts since 2007. The EBU ( European Broadcasting Union ) also regularly broadcasts festival events. Many unknown works were recorded for the first time at the Kempten Festival and found their way into the radio archive.

"For 12 years now, CLASSIX Kempten has stood for an extraordinarily fine chamber music festival
dedicated to the newly discovered, rarely or never played repertoire."
