Clathrozoella is a genus of the Hydrozoa (Hydrozoa). It is the only genus in the Clathrozoellidae family . Four types are currently known.

features

The hydroid polyps are colonial and form upright, branched or unbranched canes that are formed by the addition of successive, tubular pseudohydrothecas. The hydroid polyps are polymorphic; but no medusa stage is formed. The pseudohydrotheca is formed by fused, stolone-like Perisarc tubes that have a core of Coenosarc . Each pseudohydrotheque sits on the lower pseudohydrotheque. The pseudohydrotheques sitting on top of each other have no direct contact with one another. In each pseudohydrotheque there is only one sessile polyp with no notable stalk. The cone of the mouth is surrounded by a ring of filiform tentacles. The gonophores are sessile spore sacs that grow directly from the bottom of the pseudohydrotheque. So there are no sexual polyps. The cnidome consists of microbasic mastigophores, microbasic euryteles, desmonemes and haplonemes.

Geographical occurrence

The four species described so far come from Antarctic waters, the Drake Strait , Stewart Island (New Zealand) and Low Island (Tasmania, Australia). They live in deeper water (previously 128 m to 3093 m).
