The Filifera are a very diverse group of hydrozoans from the order of the Anthomedusae . They live solitary or colonial in the sea, few forms also occur in fresh water. One of them is the club polyp , which in recent years, coming from the Caspian Sea , has spread as a neozoon in Europe.

In contrast to the Capitata , the Filifera have thread-like, elongated tentacles . Your nettle cells are small and cylindrical or rod-shaped. They never have stenotle cells. The gonads of medusae sitting in the wall of the manubrium or at its basal outgrowths. The manubium is usually tetra- symmetrical .

Familys

The Filifera are characterized in the classical sense by the filiferous tentacles of the feeding polyps and by the presence of desnonemic and eurytelic nettle cells in the defense polyps.
