Claude Arrieu (1929)

Claude Arrieu (born November 30, 1903 in Paris , † March 7, 1990 in Paris) was a French composer .

Life

Arrieu, born in the French capital in 1903, studied at the Paris Conservatory (among others with Paul Dukas ). In 1932 she received the 1st Prix de Composition. In addition to her compositional activities, she taught and from 1935 to 1947 worked in various ways for French radio.

Arrieu wrote works for almost all musical genres, including film music and radio scores. Her operas, mostly Opéras bouffes , are both dramatic and funny. Like Stravinsky's works, her compositions are attributed to Parisian neoclassicism of the 20th century. Her main focus is on rhythmic and metric aspects, while she finds independent solutions in harmony . During her time working for the radio, she dealt with the new techniques of electronic music , but they have not found their way into her work.
