Claude Berrou

Claude Berrou (born September 23, 1951 in Penmarc'h ) is a French electrical engineer and professor of electronics at the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne (ENST) in Brest .

Life

Berrou was professor at ENST from 1978 and deputy head of the electronics department. He built the laboratory for integrated circuits . Together with Alain Glavieux and Punya Thitimajshima, he developed a new method of channel coding , the Turbo Code , published in 1993.

He received the from, among others, 1998 Glavieux and Thitimajshima Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) awarded prize for technical innovation, the IEEE Golden Jubilee Award for Technological Innovation , 2003 Glavieux the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal of the IEEE and 2005 the Marconi Prize of the Marconi Foundation for recognized advances in communication . In 2005 he received the Grand Prix France Telecom from the Académie des sciences and he received the Médaille Ampère from the Société des Electriciens et des Electroniciens (SEE). He is a member of the IEEE .
