Claude Verdan

Claude Verdan (born September 21, 1909 in Yverdon-les-Bains , † August 7, 2006 in Cully ) was a Swiss surgeon .

Life

Claude Verdan studied medicine in Lausanne and received his doctorate in 1935. He completed training in surgery in Zurich and in Pierre Decker's department at the Cantonal Hospital in Vaud . In 1946 he founded the La Longeraie hand surgery clinic in Lausanne, which became known worldwide, and from 1961 to 1980 he was head of the surgical polyclinic at the University of Lausanne . After his retirement in 1981, Verdan founded a museum on the hand in Lausanne. It is run by the Claude Verdan Foundation.

Verdan made significant medical contributions to surgery of the hand, wrote 350 publications, especially on trauma medicine and hand surgery, was a member of numerous international surgical societies and received countless honors for his performance. In 1978 he was made a knight and later an officer of the French Legion of Honor . In Japan he received the Pioneer in hand surgery award .
