Claudia Bögel-Hoyer (born September 15, 1961 in Burgsteinfurt ) is a German politician ( FDP ) and elected mayor of her hometown Steinfurt .

Professional and private

After graduating from high school Arnoldinum in Steinfurt , Claudia Bögel studied history and political science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , joined her family's medium-sized company in Steinfurt in 1983 and completed a commercial training there. She then worked for medium-sized companies for over 20 years and worked for many years as an employed IT project manager. As a working mother, she only got into active politics in 2002.

Claudia Bögel-Hoyer currently lives in Steinfurt , is married and has one son. She has been named Claudia Bögel-Hoyer since her marriage in December 2012.

Political career

Claudia Bögel has been politically active in the FDP since 2002. Just one year later, she was elected deputy group leader. From 2004 to 2010 she was a member of the Steinfurt council. From 2004 to 2012 Claudia Bögel also headed the FDP city association as chairwoman, and has been the deputy chairwoman of the FDP city association since 2012. On March 6, 2010, the deputy took over the office of chairperson at the head of the FDP in the Steinfurt district and thus leads the strongest district association in the Münsterland. A few days later she was elected to the Münsterland district executive of the FDP. Claudia Bögel was also the deputy district chairwoman of the Liberal Women in Münsterland for five years.

Claudia Bögel has been a member of the State Board of Liberal Medium-Sized Enterprises in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2008. From 2006 to 2010, she was a member of the Advisory Board of the State Board of Liberal Women in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Claudia Bögel stood for a direct mandate in the constituency of Steinfurt I - Borken I in the 2009 federal election and received 12.3 percent of the first votes. This gave her the second best first vote result in North Rhine-Westphalia. She moved into the Bundestag via Landeslistenplatz 17. As a member of the Bundestag, Claudia Bögel was a full member of the Committee on Economics and Technology. There she was the representative for medium-sized companies, IT communication and postal policy. She also worked as an alternate member of the Committee on Tourism and the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. From 2009 to 2012 she was a member of the European Union Affairs Committee. Claudia Bögel was also involved in the “Bureaucracy Reduction” and “Local Politics” working groups. Since February 2010 she has been a deputy member of the advisory board of the Federal Network Agency and since May 2010 has occupied the sub-committee “Regional Economic Policy”. In June 2010 Claudia Bögel was appointed to the SME Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Economics. In addition, since January 2011 she has been a member of the FDP parliamentary group in the study commission “Growth, Prosperity, Quality of Life - Paths to Sustainable Business and Social Progress in the Social Market Economy” in the Bundestag.

Since June 2011 Claudia Bögel has supported the President of the Bundestag in his work as secretary in the plenary committee. In addition, she was elected in November 2011 with the best vote as the first deputy federal chairman of the liberal middle class. From February 2012 Bögel was spokeswoman for the FDP parliamentary group for medium-sized companies and also worked in the newly founded coalition working group “Rural Areas / Regional Diversity” as deputy chairwoman and chairwoman of her parliamentary group.

She was an assessor in the North Rhine-Westphalia state board from May 2012 to March 2014. In June 2013 she was unanimously elected President of the German Liberal International Group (DGLI) section of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In March 2014 Claudia Bögel-Hoyer was appointed Member of the Diplomatic Council by the Council of Ambassadors.

When her party failed to pass the five percent hurdle in the 2013 federal election , she left the Bundestag in October 2013. On September 13, 2015, she was elected mayor in Steinfurt with 55.4% of the votes cast.
