Claus Meyer (business economist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Claus Meyer (born January 1, 1939 in Calw ) is a German founder and specialist book author. From 1970 to 2002 he was a professor at Pforzheim University in the Controlling, Finance and Accounting course. In May 2017 he was awarded the Staufer Medal of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

Life

Claus Meyer and his two sisters were orphans at an early age: The father was missing during the war, the mother died of pulmonary tuberculosis. The siblings therefore grew up separately from each other.

After graduating from secondary school, Claus Meyer trained as a financial economist (FH) in the financial administration of the state of Baden-Württemberg from 1955 to 1959. He then worked for two years at the regional tax office in Stuttgart in the state assets and construction department. After passing the special matriculation examination - for which he had been preparing for a year as an autodidact - he studied at the Mannheim University of Economics and Business and received his doctorate on the subject of "Consolidated period balance sheets - their use in the financial management of corporations".

Further professional positions followed before he took up a lectureship for business administration, in particular accounting, at the university (then: Staatliche Höhere Wirtschaftsfachschule) in Pforzheim from October 1970. There he held numerous offices, including head of the course and department, member of the Senate and the study and examination committee, and head of the examination office.

In addition to his university activities, he published a total of eleven books in 55 editions and around 100 articles in magazines and compilations.

Meyer Foundation

In 2005, Claus Meyer and his wife founded the Claus and Brigitte Meyer Foundation to support students in need and to promote science, research, education and training at Pforzheim University. More than 75 students have been supported since the foundation was established.

In addition, the foundation awards the Thomas Gulden Prize for an outstanding bachelor's or master's thesis and / or outstanding academic achievements in the field of business administration. As far as possible, the work will be published in the Meyer Foundation series. This currently comprises 22 volumes with second editions.
