Claus Ott

Claus Ott (born July 27, 1937 in Tübingen ) is a German lawyer who deals in particular with the economic analysis of law and private law .

Ott was a professor at the University of Hamburg and a judge at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court . At the university, in addition to his chair, from 1977 to 1980 he was Vice President of the University of Hamburg. From 1990 to 2000, Ott was Managing Director of the Institute for Law and Economics there and, from 1994, Director of the European Master's Program in Law & Economics. In 2002 he retired .

One of his most important works is the textbook on the economic analysis of civil law, which he wrote together with Hans-Bernd Schäfer .
