Clear (Scientology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clear denotes a stage in the Scientology concept of Dianetics . This goes back to the book Dianetics - the guide for the mind (in the English original: Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health ) by L. Ron Hubbard , which this 1950 wrote.

As the goal of this "Dianetic therapy", Hubbard postulated the state of a so-called clear , in which the mind should be viewed as "purified" and classified as "healthy".

Assumptions

The Clear stage speaks with the division of the mind presented by L. Ron Hubbard, according to which it should consist of a so-called analytical mind and a reactive mind . In the analytical part everything would be rational and logical; Hubbard described this as a "flawless computer". He referred to something as reactive mind, the content of which consists of a multitude of memory traces, the moments of pain, unconsciousness and loss included. These were called engrams . They were seen as "malfunctions" and should be eliminated with Dianetic auditing.

Procedure

The auditing itself consists of a question and answer sequence in which the person asking the question put the person to be questioned into a reverie . While the questioner is called an auditor in Scientology , the interviewee is called Pre-Clear (PC). Initially, no aids were used in auditing, from 1952 a so-called "psycho-galvanometer" was used, which indicated the skin resistance and functioned similar to the early form of a lie detector . Today the so-called e-meter is used.

L. Ron Hubbard, who was a trained hypnotist himself , described the Dianetics procedure as follows:

"1. Assure the patient that he will know about everything that is happening. 2. Count until he closes his eyes. 3. Set up the eraser. 4. Send the patient back to a period in the past. 5. Work with the archivist to obtain data. 6. Reduce any engrams touched so that no charge [negative charge] remains. 7. Bring the patient into the present. 8. Make sure he's in the present. 9. Give him the eraser word. 10. Restore full awareness of your surroundings. "

According to Hubbard, the state of Clear is given at the moment when engrams can no longer be localized.

Verification attempts

Hubbard described the state of Clear as one in which the respective person would see the world and themselves in a completely new way. In addition to an increased IQ , she would have optimal health and corresponding well-being.

On August 10, 1950, he presented the participant Sonia Bianca as the first "Clear" in the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Bianca was unable to produce or provide evidence of any of the features Hubbard announced during the event.

In 1969, Hubbard introduced the South African medical student John McMaster as the first "actual" Clear . This turned away from the Church of Scientology in November of the same year .
