history
Unilever first launched a pregnancy test in 1985 under the brand name Clearblue. It was the world's first rapid test for home use that gave a result within 30 minutes without having to wait for a doctor's appointment. The test consisted of a three-step process with a small container and a stick for dipping.
In 1988, the first single-stage pregnancy test was available under the name Clearblue, in which the result could be read from a blue strip that gradually emerged. The result was visible after three minutes. In 1996 the first Clearblue test came on the market with a wait of just one minute. The Clearblue tests have been equipped with a digital display since 2003 and the result is clearly described verbally as “pregnant” or “not pregnant”.
In 2008, a version was launched in Europe that also shows the time of the last ovulation so that the duration of the pregnancy can be read (either 1–2 weeks, 2–3 weeks or more than 3 weeks). Since 2013 this test has also been marketed in the USA under the name “Clearblue Advanced Digital Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator”.

Ovulation tests are also offered under the brand name Clearblue, which can be used to determine the fertile days when conception is most likely. In 1989, the first one-step ovulation test that measures the luteinizing hormone came on the market . Since 1999, these tests have also been used to measure estrone 3-glucuronide, an estrogen . The Clearblue ovulation test has also had a digital display since 2004. In 2013, a test came on the market that shows both hormones at the same time.
Clearblue won the Red Dot Design Award for product design in 2012 . The Clearblue digital ovulation test won the platinum prize at the Prima Baby Reader Awards in 2011.
Clearblue is a sponsor of Flight for Every Mother Ltd., a Sophia Webster humanitarian project that supports maternal health in Africa.
