In 2014, Cleen Energy GmbH was founded with a focus on LED lighting by today's board member Lukas Scherzenlehner and core shareholder Erwin Stricker.

In 2019, the company got into the media through a complaint from the Austrian Audit Office for Accounting (OePr) that the goodwill of Cleen Energy GmbH had been set too high during the merger, and a simultaneous continuation warning by the responsible auditor.
