In 2014, Cleen Energy GmbH was founded with a focus on LED lighting by today's board member Lukas Scherzenlehner and core shareholder Erwin Stricker.

In 2015, the business area was expanded to include the trading of energy efficiency measures ( emissions trading ) after the Energy Efficiency Act came into force .

In April 2017, the company went public in the standard market segment of the Vienna Stock Exchange. At that time, this was the first public offering in the open market on the Vienna Stock Exchange since 2015.

In July 2017, Erwin Stricker stepped down from the board. The previous CFO Robert Kögl took over and left the company after a year.

An audit by the Austrian Audit Office for Accounting (OePr) in March 2018 revealed a deviation in equity due to the goodwill of Cleen Energy GmbH being too high .

In 2019, the company got into the media through a complaint from the Austrian Audit Office for Accounting (OePr) that the goodwill of Cleen Energy GmbH had been set too high during the merger, and a simultaneous continuation warning by the responsible auditor. As a result, an audit was initiated by the Financial Market Authority .
