Clic Clac Baby

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clic Clac Baby (real name: Kacou Ezinlin ; born January 1, 1932 ) is an Ivorian photographer and lives in Adiaké in the Ivory Coast . He got his stage name from an advertising sign that reads "Clic Clac Merci Kodak". His first camera was a model called "Baby".

life and work

Clic Clac Baby started taking pictures in 1946 at the age of 14. A related photographer introduced him to the basics of photography. On February 9, 1954, he bought the "Baby" ("Agfa Clack") and opened a photo studio in Adiaké. In the 1950s, he toured the state with officials for two years, taking photos of citizens for their IDs. In 1957 he opened a second photo studio in Katiola . There he mainly did portrait photography. He also worked as a newspaper reporter. Patience has been his number one priority in all portrait photography. His natural light meter is the color of his forearm. In the first few years he sent his negatives to France for development, unfortunately many negatives were lost in the process.

In 1996 he stopped taking photos because it was difficult to get films. The photo studio in Adiaké is now run by his son Bernard. He has 25 children from several women. Today he runs a bar in an hour hotel and rarely takes photos (as of 2015).

Clic Clac Baby's job was long forgotten. In 2012 the Ivorian designer Jean-Servais Somian introduced him to the German agent Stefan Meisel. Since then, his approx. 5,000 negatives have been carefully classified and archived as they represent a valuable historical archive and his important historical legacy of the Ivory Coast. Piece by piece, a selection of 150 recordings is to be published in a limited edition.

His most famous photographs include a portrait of Modibo Keïta , the first President of Mali , and a 1971 photo of French President Georges Pompidou .
