The banking institute was founded on August 13, 1874 by 32 members of the Thursday Society Oberuzwil under the name Ersparnisanstalt Oberuzwil in the form of a guarantee stock corporation . It was preceded by the savings storage institution founded in 1834 by the Thursday Society of Oberuzwil (renamed as savings loan institution in 1860 ).
In 1893 the Oberuzwil savings institution was converted into a cooperative under the new St. Gallen Savings Bank Act. In 1965 there was another change in legal form with the conversion into a stock corporation. In 2003 the Oberuzwil savings bank was one of the founders of the Clientis group, which had formed within the RBA group. At the beginning of 2008, the Clientis umbrella brand was adopted in the company name and the bank, which remains independent, was renamed Clientis Bank Oberuzwil AG .
