Clifford Charles "Cliff" Holton (born April 29, 1929 in Oxford , † June 4, 1996 in Almeria ) was an English football player .
life and career
Holton began his career at the then amateur club Oxford City before moving to Arsenal in 1947 . Initially still as a central defender , he was converted into a center forward in the second team of the Gunners . He made his debut for London on December 26, 1950 against Stoke City . Holton won the English Championship once and the English Cup once with Arsenal FC. In 1958 it was sold to Watford FC for £ 10,000 . At that time still a fourth division, the Hornets rose to the third division with Holton as the top scorer. After moving to Northampton Town in 1961, he now completed one year guest appearances at Crystal Palace , again for Watford FC, Charlton Athletic and then another three years at Orient FC . After his career ended in 1968, he still worked as a mechanical engineer. Holton died suddenly on vacation in 1996 at the age of 67.
