Clive Mullings

Clive Mullings (born July 3, 1957 ) is a Jamaican politician of the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP). He was Jamaica's Minister of Mining and Energy from September 2007 to April 2009 and took over the ministry again between July 2011 and January 2012.

Life

Mullings attended Kingston College and then studied law at the University of the West Indies (UWI). He is a professional attorney in Montego Bay .

In 1989 he first joined the People's National Party (PNP). He moved to JLP in 1998. Mullings was at times Deputy General Secretary of the JLP.

In the 2002 general election, Mullings was elected to the House of Representatives as the JLP's candidate for the West Central St. James constituency. He was the opposition spokesman for mining, energy and telecommunications policy in parliament. In the following election on September 3, 2007 Mullings was able to win his constituency again. The JLP won the majority of seats in parliament in this election and formed the new government. Mullings was sworn in as Minister of Mining, Energy and Telecommunications on September 14, 2007 . From 2008 he was Minister of Energy , in the course of a cabinet reshuffle on April 6, 2009 Mullings submitted his resignation and gave the restructured ministry to James Robertson . He continued to serve in the House of Representatives. After Robertson resigned from the ministerial office in late May 2011, Mullings took over the ministry and energy ministry again from July 1, 2011 as part of a further cabinet reshuffle. Even after Golding's resignation in October 2011, Montague remained a member of the cabinet of Golding's successor Andrew Holness as Minister of Mines and Energy .

In the early parliamentary elections on December 29, 2011, which were won by the PNP, Mullings could not defend his mandate. He lost to Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams of the PNP in the West Central St. James constituency .
