The Club Athlétique Bizertin ( Arabic النادي الرياضي البنزرتي, DMG an-Nādī ar-Riyāḍī al-Binzartī ) is a Tunisian association from the northern Tunisian port city of Bizerte . He has sections in football, basketball and handball.
The association was founded in 1928. The venue is the October 15th Stadium with 20,000 seats.
History and fan culture
Club Athlétique Bizertin was the first Tunisian club to win an African trophy for club teams. In the 1987/1988 season, the Tunisians defeated today's Nigerian second division Ranchers Bees FC. So far, four national championships and three cup victories have been won at national level. The club also won the league cup and the super cup once.
In the 1991/1992 season, a draw on the last match day against the runner-up Club Africain would have been enough to win the championship, away in a direct duel they lost with a goal from Adel Sellimi in stoppage time and thus lost the championship in literally the last second. The playful championship is still considered the greatest tragedy for the club and also establishes the rivalry between the two fan camps.
The fans of the club are known to stand behind the club even in bad times. This is justified by the exceptional position of the club, because in northern Tunisia the CAB has a long-established history rich in tradition and is considered a good and successful football school in the north of the country.
Club Athlétique Bizertin, or simply “CAB” for short, is called “Requins du Nord” by its own fans, which literally means “Sharks of the North”.
structure
The club has traditionally relied on younger players and players from its own youth department for years. Players who have performed well or are traded as talents are usually recruited from the financially better positioned top clubs in the country Espérance Tunis , Club Africain and ES Sahel .
