Coşkun Çörüz (born August 15, 1963 in Salıpazarı , Turkey ) is a Dutch politician of Turkish origin. He has been a member of the Dutch parliament since May 29, 2001 , within the CDA ( Christen Democratisch Appèl ) faction . In the past he worked in the youth, education and law departments at the Amsterdam Center for Foreigners (ACB).

biography

Çörüz studied law and economics for two years at the University of Amsterdam . In 1998 he became a member of the Haarlem Parish Council , and in the meantime he joined the Second Chamber in 2001. There he deals with the areas of youth (including juvenile delinquency), constitutional and administrative law, human rights and international law.

In addition to his political offices, Çörüz is also chairman of the council of the European Minority Youth Committee and chairman of the foundation “Sonderlehrstuhl Islam” ( Stichting Bijzondere Leerstoel Islam ) at the University of Amsterdam. He is a member of the advisory board of the foundation “Weltanschauungen im Dialog” ( Stichting Levensbeschouwingen in Dialoog ) and of the Commission for Equal Treatment ( Commissie gelijkebehinging ), which provides non-binding information on suspected discrimination.

Since 2006, Çörüz has presented a bill to the Second Chamber. The draft law aims to increase parents' strict liability for their children from 14 to 18. On September 22nd, 2009 Çörüz said in De Telegraaf that the behavior of the youth in Amsterdam and Rotterdam at the end of Ramadan was outrageous , inappropriate and un-Islamic . Accordingly, it is always the same people who are a nuisance and who, in his opinion, can pay for the costs of the damage.

Personal

Çörüz lives in Haarlem, is married and has two children.
