Cock rig

The Cock Rig is a 479 m high hill in the Pentland Hills in the west of the Scottish Council Area Midlothian . It is located on the eastern flank in the center of the 25 km long chain of hills around three kilometers north of the hamlet of Carlops . The upper reaches of the North Esk runs along the southern flank and is dammed below the Cock Rig to form the North Esk Reservoir . The neighboring hills are Spittal Hill and the Green Law in the east and the Whether Law in the southwest.

The Gutterford Burn stream flows between Cock Rig and Spittal Hill and Green Law . There are remains of agricultural buildings that were partially used until the middle of the 19th century. Another farm was on the south flank of North Esk. Based on census data, it can be understood that the building listed as Cock Rigghouse or Cockrigend was abandoned before 1841.
