Different cocktail skewers and cocktail picks

A cocktail skewer (also known as cocktail pick ) is used in gastronomy and in the home to spear garnish fruits in cocktails . It is a narrow, elongated piercing tool with a tip and an often decorative handle head at the opposite end. In cross-section it is usually round or flat-oval, sometimes also angular. It consists mostly of colored plastic, wood or metal, and is usually between 6 and 15 cm long. The cocktail skewer is used to hold a decoration made up of several parts or, like the olive in a martini , to be able to remove it before drinking and, if necessary, consume it.

In addition, cocktail skewers or so-called party skewers are used to prepare ("join") and / or decorate appetizers for cold buffets or parties, etc., and to make it easier to pick them up. Special containers for cocktail or party skewers are sometimes offered for table decorations and as part of the table setting.

Cocktail skewers have their origin in the (earlier) bowling sets that have been in use since the 1930s.
