Coeluridae is the name of a family of small, carnivorous dinosaurs . It was common in the Upper Jurassic in North America.
The species of the family were small to medium-sized hunters (1–2 m long), who were quite nimble due to the long hind legs and slim body. The grasping hands had three fingers with sharp claws, the hind legs also had three main toes. The only genera are Coelurus and Tanycolagreus .
classification
For a long time all dinosaurs of the suborder Theropoda , which could not be assigned to a special family, were combined in the family of the Coeluriden, so that a broad family of not very related genera resulted. Some genera that were incorrectly assigned to the family in the past are, for example, the Stenonychosaurus (now in the Troodontidae family ) and the Microvenator , which is now assigned to the Oviraptoridae .
The system presented here comes from Phil Senter , from 2007, he assumes that it is a monophyletic taxon, i.e. a natural family group.
