Hendrik Prinsen Geerligs

Hendrik Coenraad Prinsen Geerligs (born November 24, 1864 in Haarlem , † July 31, 1953 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch chemist.

Prinsen-Gerlichs was the son of a school principal, attended business school in Amsterdam (graduated in 1883) and studied chemistry at the University of Amsterdam. He then worked for the company Wijnhoff en van Gulpen and from 1891 was in Java as a chemist at the sugar research station in Kagok.

He published on sugar extraction specifically from sugar cane in Java.

He was a corresponding member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (1899 until his resignation in 1909) and a member ( matriculation number 3241 ) of the Leopoldina (1907). In 1940 he resigned from the Leopoldina (without giving reasons).

He was married to Geertruida de Blank and had a son Reinier Johan Prinsen Geerlig, who in turn was the father of the resistance fighter Reina Prinsen Geerlig .
