Colégio Humboldt is a German school abroad in São Paulo , Brazil .
history
Founded in 1916 in São Paulo , Santo Amaro district , in the German bakery Lindau at Largo 13 de Maio square with 41 students. In 1917 the school was closed because of the First World War . It was reopened four years later in 1921. In 1927, thanks to a donation from Mr. Heinrich Grassmann, a school building could be built in the street "Ladeira da Matriz". A year later, a 1700 m² plot of land was purchased. However, the school was confiscated in 1942 after Brazil faced Germany in World War II and was not returned to the school association until 1955.
The school with the original name "Escola Barão do Rio Branco" received permission in 1960 to teach the intermediate level ( lower secondary level ) under the name "Ginásio Humboldt". Just six years later, in 1966, the school also received approval to introduce the upper secondary school and has since been called "Colégio Humboldt", which is still valid today.
Because of the steadily growing number of students, the "Sociedade Escolar Barão do Rio Branco" decided to leave the Santo Amaro location and in 1987 bought a 60,000 m² plot of land in the Interlagos district . Construction began in 1998 and the new school building was ready to move into just one year later. However, the construction work did not end there, because in 2001 the new construction of the Humboldt Theater began with 400 seats. Other buildings such as a gym and a swimming pool are also planned for the next few years.
