Santo Amaro , officially Portuguese Prefeitura Regional de Santo Amaro , is one of 32 regional prefectures in the Brazilian city ​​of São Paulo . It is located in the Zona Centro-Sul and was an independent town until it was incorporated in 1935. In addition to the district of the same name , the districts of Campo Belo and Campo Grande also belong to the regional prefecture , formerly known as the sub-prefecture . The population in 2010 was 238,025 people on an area of ​​37.5 km².

Santo Amaro is part of São Paulo where most of the German immigrants from São Paulo settled in the past . By 1830, around 7,000 Germans had settled here and in the surrounding area, mainly from the Hunsrück , Saarland , Rheinhessen and the Palatinate .

Today Santo Amaro is one of the economic centers in the south of the city with comparatively high rents and land prices.

The prefecture is subordinate to an appointed regional prefect ( Prefeito Regional ), who is assisted by coordinators for various areas. Regional prefect for Santo Amaro is Janaina Lopes De Martini as of 2018.
