List of the regional prefectures of the city of São Paulo
This is a list of the regional prefectures of the city of São Paulo ( Portuguese Prefeituras regionais ), formerly known as subprefectures ( subprefeituras ).
São Paulo is divided into nine administrative zones ( zonas ) according to points of the compass : Northeast, Northwest, West, Center-South, Center, Southeast, South, East 01 and East 02. The city, under the executive management of a city prefect, has been divided into 32 Subprefectures , the subprefeituras . The name sub-prefecture was changed to regional prefecture in 2017. These are divided into a further 96 parts of the city, the districts ( distritos ).
The inner city administrative authority is the Secretaria Municipal das Prefeituras Regionais (SMPR), formerly Secretaria Municipal de Coordenação das Subprefeituras . The individual prefectures are subordinate to an appointed regional prefect, who is assisted by coordinators for individual subject areas.
The figures in the table are based on the information provided by this secretariat, which reproduces the 2000 and 2010 censuses carried out by the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE).
