Colloquium Balticum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Colloquium Balticum is an association of northern European ancient scholars , especially classical philologists, who research antiquity and the reception of antiquity in the eastern Baltic region.

The universities of Greifswald , Lund , Vilnius , Riga and Tartu take part in the annual conferences . Since the Colloquium Balticum VII, which took place in 2007, the universities of Marburg and Saint Petersburg have also been integrated. The conferences take place alternately at the home universities of the participating institutes.

The colloquium helps to exchange the findings of individual research in the Baltic and Scandinavian countries. While humanism has been widely explored in southern Germany or the Romance countries, there is considerable empty space here in northern Europe. The colloquium helps to fill this gap in international exchange.

In addition to the actual aim of the colloquium to discuss ongoing research projects and dissertations , guest lectures, research stays and Erasmus exchanges are increasingly taking place due to the gradual approach of the participating universities via the colloquium .

prehistory

The "Baltic Network" was founded in 2001 in Lund , originally from an exchange of institutes between the ancient science institutes of the universities of Lund and Greifswald in 1999 and 2000 . Since then, the number of institutions involved has grown steadily.
