Colo Colo (Mapuche)
Colo Colo (from Mapudungun colo-colo , " mountain cat "; approx . 1490 - approx . 1555 ) was a Cacique (leader) of the Mapuche .
Colo Colo followed Caupolicán in 1551 as the highest military leader of the Mapuche. Together with this and Lautaro he commanded the Mapuche in the Battle of Tucapel (1553), in which the Spanish army under Pedro de Valdivia was defeated.
Not only streets in Chile were named after this cacique, but also the most popular Chilean football club CSD Colo-Colo .
The asteroid (1973) Colocolo is also named after him.
