Combat Medical Badge

The Combat Medical Badge is a United States Army award that was introduced in March 1945. Every member of the Army Medical Department up to the rank of Colonel can be awarded this award for providing medical support in combat operations on the ground. The Combat Medical Badge was awarded retrospectively from December 6, 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbor .

As of June 3, 2005, Special Forces medical personnel will no longer be eligible for the award, but may now receive the Combat Infantryman Badge . U.S. military medical personnel may be awarded the Expert Field Medical Badge for non-combat missions .

Originally the medal was only awarded once. From 1951 to 1969 the award could also be given several times to soldiers. It was awarded once per war. Only soldiers Henry Jenkins and Wayne Slagel received the medal three times. Since 1969, the order has only been awarded once again.

Since 1947, soldiers who were awarded the Combat Medical Badge during the Second World War also received the Bronze Star . The basis for this was that the Combat Medical Badge was only awarded to soldiers who met the conditions for the Bronze Star.
