The Cairns Cove is a bay on the north coast of South Georgia . It is located on the west side of Right Whale Bay .
Scientists from the UK Discovery Investigations mapped it in 1930 and named it Haste Cove . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee revoked this designation in 1959. After a hydrographic survey with the ship HMS Owen from 1960 to 1961, the bay was named after Petty Officer Peter T. Cairns of the Royal Navy , a member of the survey team.
