Compagnie des Tramways à Vapeur de la Chalosse et du Béarn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The meter- gauge small railways of the Compagnie des Tramways à Vapeur de la Chalosse et du Béarn (CB or TVCB) ( German company of the Chalosse and Béarn steam trams ) were mainly in the Landes department and were in operation until 1937.

history

The 145 km long network was opened between 1909 and 1914. However, operations were stopped again just 20 years later. Of this network, only the Sault-de-Navailles-Orthez section was 14 kilometers in length in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department (then: Basses-Pyrénées). There, the CB had also planned to put two more routes into operation, for which they had already done extensive preparatory work. This was not done, however, because the prospects of their profitability had diminished considerably over time. Only the 10 km long Pau Center – Pont-Long section (airship port) was put into operation from 1916 - initially for military reasons; however not through the CB itself, but through the Compagnie du Chemin de fer Pau-Oloron-Mauléon et du Tramway de Bayonne à Biarritz (POM); it was shut down again in 1930.
