Complete Chess Masters: 1950–1967 is a CD box with five CDs containing the recordings of Little Walter , one of the style-forming musicians of the Chicago blues , for Chess Records . The running time is 361: 43 min. The CD box was published by Hip-o Select, it contains detailed liner notes by Tony Glover, Scott Dirks and Ward Gaines, the authors of the biography "Blues With A Feeling - The Little Walter Story" as well as various photos.
General
The box contains five CDs that contain all of Little Walter's recordings for the Chicago record company Chess Records. In addition to the big hits like Juke , My Babe or Mean Old World, there are also alternate takes of different songs and some previously unreleased recordings, including two with Bo Diddley (“Feel So Bad” and “Make It Alright”). His accompanying musicians include a “Who's Who” of the Chicago blues, for example Muddy Waters , Willie Dixon , Otis Spann and Buddy Guy , but also lesser-known ones such as Louis and David Myers, Fred Below and Luther Tucker . At the beginning of the 1950s Walter already had some experience as a harmonica player in the band of Muddy Waters, with the success of Juke he was able to establish himself as a band leader and recorded with Chess Records until his death. The box is a welcome release for collectors, for blues lovers who have yet to discover Little Walter, a collection such as B. His Best (Chess 50th Anniversary Collection) is better, because the box also documents the late 1960s, when he was no longer at the peak of his creativity for personal reasons. The CD box received the Grammy 2010 for “Best Historical Release”.
