Computer Network Defense

Computer Network Defense ( CND ; German  Computer Network Defense ) is a sub-term of Computer Network Operations and comes from the military sector. Computer Network Defense comprises all measures to defend one's own computer networks. Monitoring, defense and analysis are used to successfully defend your own network systems. The penetration test is a way of preventing a computer network attack. The aim of computer network defense is to uncover one's own weak points in computer (networks) at an early stage in order to secure this security gap from an attack. Intercepting and blocking ongoing attacks is also part of the job.

Federal authority

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is a Bonn-based federal authority within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) , which is responsible for IT security issues. Around 570 people are employed at the BSI. Department C (Cyber ​​Security) is responsible for Computer Network Defense with two departments: FB C1 - Security in Networks and FB C2 - Operational Network Defense. In addition , the BSI is in charge of the National Cyber ​​Defense Center , a cooperation facility between the federal security bodies to defend against electronic attacks on federal and business IT infrastructures.

military

The Strategic Reconnaissance Command (KdoStrat Aufkl or KSA) with the CNO (Computer Network Operations) department is responsible for computer network defense in the military sector . The CNO department has been under construction since 2006 and is stationed in the Tomburg barracks in Rheinbach. The CNO department currently has around 80 posts and was initially qualified in 2012.

The Cyber ​​Defense Lab a research group of the Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics FKIE deals with the aspects of IT security with a focus on defense and public security. The Fraunhofer Institute FKIE cooperates with the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) as a partner in the Alliance for Cyber ​​Security .
