Comte Jean de Villeneuve-Esclapon
Comte Jean de Villeneuve-Esclapon (born January 18, 1860 in Aix-en-Provence , † November 1943 in Nice ) was a French chess player and composer .
Tournament chess
De Villeneuve-Esclapon began playing chess in 1900, at the age of 40. He first played his roles in the Parisian Café de la Régence , but soon devoted himself to chess composition and especially to studies. In the tournament of the Café de la Régence in 1907 he took 4th place. In 1927 he shared 1st place in the side tournament of the French championship.
Editor and organizer
After founding the “Union Amicale des Amateurs de la Régence”, he was editor of the club's journal L'échiquier français from 1906 to 1909. In the 1920s he was often on the organizing committee of the French championships.
Chess composition
Jean de Villeneuve-Esclapon composed about 300 assignments and studies. I especially like some of his studies. The following duplex study shows the motives behind profit management as an echo .
