Conan II (Brittany)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Conan II (* after 1018; † December 11, 1066 in Château-Gontier ) became Duke of Brittany in 1040 . He was the son of Duke Alain III. and Bertha from Blois . His father was poisoned when he was a child, so that he was under the tutelage of his uncle Odo von Penthièvre for the first 22 years of his reign, until 1062 . Rivallon de Combourg led an uprising against Conan, which was supported by William II , the Duke of Normandy . Conan II died of poison like his father in 1066, and his opponent Wilhelm was suspected of being the instigator.

Conan II was buried in the monastery church of Saint-Melaine in Rennes .

The rule of Brittany fell to his brother-in-law Hoel II , Count of Nantes and Cornouaille , who was married to Conan's sister Hawisa († 1072).
