808 State is a British electronics band founded in Radcliffe , Greater Manchester in 1988 . The band's name comes from the Roland  TR-808  drum computer . 808 State are among the most influential music groups in the Manchester Rave . They are also seen as pioneers of acid house in Great Britain. The band was founded by Graham Massey , Martin Price and Gerald Simpson and released their debut album Newbuild in 1988.
