Concepción is the capital of the department of the same name Concepción in the province of Corrientes in northeast Argentina . The place was originally known by its Guaraní name Yaguareté Corá , which is still in use today. In 1870 the place got its current name, which in its full form is Inmaculada Concepción de la Virgen Maria . In the classification of communes in the province of Corrientes, Concepción belongs to the 2nd category.

According to the last census (2001), the population was 4,800. According to estimates from 2007, the number of residents has grown to around 7,000.

history

Concepción was founded on September 21, 1796 as part of the settlement by small farmers and independent ranchers. General Manuel Belgrano concentrated his troops here before the battle of Itapúa .
