In 1959, a commission was appointed to select and photograph the most beautiful indigenous woman. Ramírez was then 17 years old and was selected to appear on the 25 centavos coin . The portrait was taken by the photographer Alfredo Gálvez Suárez. Since the coin is popularly referred to as “choca”, Ramírez is often called “chonita”.

In 2019, the park was redesigned by Santiago Atitlán and in this context a monument to Ramírez was erected. It is an image of the 25 centavos coin with a diameter of about one meter. The Plaza Concepción in Santiago Atitlán is also named after her.

activism

Ramírez's family was also affected by the Guatemalan civil war . Her father was tortured to death along with 27 other people on January 7, 1980. Her husband was also murdered along with three other people on May 22, 1990 in connection with a great wave of political violence. Ramírez therefore spoke out very openly against state violence, and in 2007 she laid a "Peace Rose" in the National Palace of Culture.

In addition, Ramírez was considered a representative of the Tz'utujil and campaigned for the preservation of indigenous traditions, culture and language.

In 2018, Ramírez was awarded a state pension for her service to the Guatemalan people.

She received the Order of Municipal of the Empire of the Tz'utujil in 2019.
