Harald Conrad

Harald Conrad ハ ラ ル ト ・ コ ン ラ ッ ト (* 1966 in Monschau ) is a German economist and Japan researcher. Since 2019 he has been a professor at Heinrich Heine University , Düsseldorf, where he holds Chair III at the Institute for Modern Japan .

biography

Harald Conrad was born in Monschau in 1966 and completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller with M. Jacobi's successor in Aachen from 1988 to 1991 . From 1991 to 1996 he studied economics at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cologne , where he also received his doctorate summa cum laude in 2000.

From 1994 to 1995 he was a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD ) at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and from 1996 to 1998 he was a scholarship holder of the Japanese Ministry of Culture at Keiō University in Tokyo.

From 2000 to 2005 Conrad worked as a research assistant and from 2005 to 2007 as deputy director at the German Institute for Japanese Research (DIJ) in Tokyo .

From 2007 to 2008 he was Associate Professor at the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Beppu , Japan. From 2008 to 2019 he was a Sasakawa and later Senior Lecturer in Japan's Economy and Management at the School of East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield , England. Since 2019 Conrad has been Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield and Chair III at the Institute for Modern Japan at Heinrich Heine University , Düsseldorf. From 2012 to 2017 Conrad held several visiting professorships at the Ruhr University in Bochum and the Dōshisha University in Kyoto. He is a Fellow Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the editorial board of the journals "Japan Forum" and "Contemporary Japan".

Appreciations

In 2000 Conrad received the Erhardt Imelmann Prize from the University of Cologne for his dissertation on the Japanese pension system. In 1991 he was honored for his exams as a book trade apprentice by the Association of Publishers and Bookshops in NRW eV.
