Conditum Paradoxum is an ancient Roman spicy wine.

According to Apicius' cookbook , honey is boiled down with a little wine . Pepper , mastic , (bay) leaves (?), Saffron , roasted date kernels and dates are added as spices . Finally, the mixture is diluted with additional wine.

The Conditum Paradoxum is just a particularly elaborate variant of the Roman vina condita or vina piperata , wines mixed with pepper.
