Conrad Marchtaler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Conrad Marchtaler was an arithmetic master and Ulmer Visirer (draftsman).

He comes from the Marchtaler family from Ermingen , at the time west of Ulm.

In 1545 he studied in Wittenberg, "where he ran out of means to stay longer". On May 7th, 1545 he offered the Ulm council (mayor Georg Besserer) the establishment of a complete arithmetic school . The people of Ulm competed with Nuremberg and gladly accepted the proposal. In 1547 he also received the office of calibration master and visor. In 1554 he wrote his visor booklet . His writing is reminiscent of Michael Stifel , but is free from all number games.

His successors were his pupils Gallus Spänlein and Johannes Krafft († 1620).
