Life

Conrad Meyer was a son of Jöri Meyer, community Captain and Catharina Zölpfer. In 1625 he married Regula Kunz. From 1636 to 1639 he was the mayor of Herisau. From 1639 to 1647 he was governor of Ausserrhoder. From 1648 to 1650 he held the post of governor in the Rhine Valley. Meyer and his father supported the replacement of Schwellbrunn from Herisau. He brought this request before the Grand Council in 1647 . His office as bailiff earned him the nickname "Crudelis". This led in 1656 to the disqualification of the Landsgemeinde from being able to vote . In 1659, the Herisau community elected him councilor anyway. In 1664 Meyer was rehabilitated and took part as a cantonal delegate in a military conference with St. Gallen. In 1646 he organized a big free shooting in Herisau.
