history

Postbank (1978)

The Postbank building was designed by the Dutch architect Daniël Knuttel (1857–1926) in a mixture of neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau . In 1897 it was created for around 120,000 guilders (€ 55,000). In 1978 the building was given up by Postbank and stood empty for five years.

In 1983 it became the seat of the newly founded Conservatorium van Amsterdam ; conversions were necessary to turn the architecture into functional classrooms. In April 2008 the Amsterdam Conservatory moved.

In 2008 The Set Hotels bought the building. The Milanese designer Piero Lissoni converted the Conservatory into a Hotel Conservatorium and added a glass-covered hall and a modern extension with an entrance area, elevators and meeting rooms until 2012.

Music award

The hotel keeps up the story with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam through award ceremonies, for which students from the jazz department are invited to the hotel every year.
