Constanza (Dominican Republic)
Constanza is the highest town in the Caribbean and is located in the Dominican Republic .
Located in the province of La Vega , it can be reached by taking the A1 motorway ( Autopista Duarte from Santiago de los Caballeros to Santo Domingo ) near the city of Bonao . After about 60 km to the west over the winding Carretera N12 into the mountains you are at your destination. The distance to Santo Domingo is 140 km and to Santiago 70 km.
Constanza lies 1,200 m above sea level in a valley, surrounded by over 2,000 m high peaks of the Cordillera Central. Due to the altitude, the climate here is very different from that on the coast . The average temperature is 18 ° C and in the warmest month an average of around 20 ° C. In the city, temperatures are rarely above 30 ° C in summer. The temperatures in winter are sometimes below freezing point. Because of the climate, the tropical fruits are grown in Constanza rather than potatoes, cabbage, lettuce, strawberries, etc.
Constanza is popular with tourists who love adventure and nature. Nearby, around 16 km away, is the highest waterfall Aguas Blancas in the Caribbean with a height of 53 meters and 1680 meters above sea level.
