Consuelo González de Perdomo (born July 20, 1950 in Pitalito , Colombia ) is a Colombian politician of the Partido Liberal Colombiano , who was kidnapped on September 10, 2001 and released by FARC rebels on January 10, 2008 .

biography

Consuelo González is a member of the Partido Liberal Colombiano (German: Liberal Party of Colombia ). First she was a member of parliament in the Southwest Colombian Department del Huila . In 1998 she was elected to the parliament in Bogotá , the Congreso de la República. She was married to Jairo Perdomo and is the mother of two daughters, Patricia Helena and María Fernanda.

kidnapping

On September 10, 2001, Consuelo González was kidnapped by the guerrilla organization FARC near the city of Neiva with her driver. The driver was released the next day. Her husband Jairo Perdomo died on January 4, 2003. She learned this from the radio . Consuelo González's last sign of life was a video from August 2003. Since then she has disappeared in the jungle.

release

After months of negotiations with the FARC, Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez succeeded in releasing Consuelo González and Clara Rojas , the former campaign manager of Íngrid Betancourt , with whom she was abducted on February 23, 2002. She was released on January 10, 2008 after over six years. The women’s first attempt at liberation failed on December 31, 2007. The two women were celebrated in Caracas after their release .
