Conway Island is a small island off the Graham Coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located west of Lens Peak in the entrance to Crates Bay , a side bay of Holtedahl Bay .
Aerial photos by Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. from 1956 to 1957 were used by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey for mapping. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the island in 1959 after the British mountaineer William Martin Conway (1856-1937), who in 1896 was the first to cross the island of Svalbard on skis .
