description

The building is located in the middle of a spacious property around 1.5 km northeast of Symington. The classicist mansion was built by the architect Sir Robert Smirke between 1826 and 1831 under the name Williamfield House . Built by the widow William Fairlies , the name was intended to commemorate her late husband.

Sir William Houldsworth later acquired the property and initiated extensive remodeling. He designed a private chapel and music room with the architect Alfred Waterhouse .

The south-east facing main facade of the three-story Coodham House is six axes wide. The entrance area on the two-axis-wide central risalits is designed with porte-cochère and Doric columns. Triangular gables crown the high lattice windows at ground level . The final platform roof is hidden behind a surrounding balustrade .
