Symington is a village in the Scottish council area of South Ayrshire . It is located in the north of the region about seven kilometers northeast of Prestwick and eight kilometers southwest of Kilmarnock . To the south of the village is the parish church Symington Parish Church , which is classified as a monument of the highest Scottish monument category A. With Coodham House and Wallace's Monument, there are two more Category A buildings in the vicinity .
In 1841 there were 918 people in Symington. In the course of the century the number of inhabitants fell to 697 in 1881. In the 1961 census, 538 inhabitants were counted in the village. In twenty years the number had more than doubled to 1,200. Since then it has been declining again with the last 1006 in 2011.

The A77 ( Stranraer - Glasgow ) touches Symington in the south. A few kilometers to the southwest it is connected to the A78 and A79 . With the Glasgow Prestwick Airport is an international airport located five kilometers south-west. At about the same distance, a station on the Glasgow and South Western Railway was opened in Monkton in the 19th century along the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway . However, the station has now been closed.
