history
Symon Loccard had a church built on this site in 1160. The name of the village Symington is derived from its name. Fragments, mainly the nave , of today's church building come from the church from the 12th century. Although the building has undergone major changes over the centuries, the Symington Parish Church is one of the oldest surviving churches in Scotland. In 1750 the building was modernized and expanded in 1797. The last restoration was carried out in 1919.
description
The Symington Parish Church is in the middle of the surrounding cemetery at the junction of Brewlands Street in Main Street on the southern edge of Symington. The building is designed in the Norman style and has retained its medieval character despite multiple revisions . The 1.08 m thick masonry encloses an area of 14.25 m × 6.05 m. The east-facing gable side is three axes wide and is designed with cornices and three narrow arched windows. On the gable there is a small roof turret with a bell, which dates from the 18th century. However, medieval fragments may also have been incorporated here. The cultivation on the north side also dates from the 18th century.
