The A77 road ( English for road A77 ) is a good 147 km long, largely designated as a primary route road in Scotland, which connects Glasgow with Portpatrick and forms part of the quick access from Glasgow to Glasgow Prestwick Airport . At the same time, the Glasgow area connects them with the ferry to Northern Ireland .

The road leaves the center of Glasgow in a south-south-west direction, crosses the M8 motorway and at junction 5 reaches the M77 motorway . It then runs parallel to this to the end of the M77 at junction 8 and continues the motorway with separate lanes east past Kilmarnock ; it crosses the A71 road on a separate roundabout. It then takes the A78 road near Monkton (South Ayrshire) and at the same time provides access to the airport. At the level of Ayr it becomes two-lane and the A70 road is crossed. A bypass is under construction in Maybole (2019/2020). At Turnberry the coast is reached, which the road via Girvan mostly follows to the south. In Cairnryan she passes the ferry port to Belfast in Northern Ireland . At the southern end of Loch Ryan , she turns west and reaches Stranraer , where the A75 road meets her. There it also loses its status as a primary route. From Stranraer it leads 5 km south to Lochans and then turns west (further south to the Mull of Galloway the A716 road leads ), where after another 8 km it reaches Portpatrick on the coast and ends.
